That's Not Acting Im finally sitting down to watch… come and see… https://www.patreon.com/thatsnotactin... (9 days ago)

That's Not Acting Re-upload note: the first version of this went out with an audio problem I didn't catch — breaths and plosives coming through as loud as my voice. Not great on a channel where the whole thing is me talking. Someone flagged it in the comments (thank you, genuinely), so this is the corrected cut. Same reaction, same theories, ears intact. If you already watched the first one, nothing new here except you can hear me properly. Be kind to each other, and most importantly, be kind to yourself. (4 weeks ago)

That's Not Acting Hey Everybody! I finally launched content on my Letsplay channel, "That's Not Gaming" (I know, I'm a creative genius at Channel Names). I'm starting with "A Plague Tale: Innocence" with Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth coming as soon as it drops! I think this channel is sitting at 3 subscribers right now (and one of them is my son, lol) so every new sub means everything! Thanks for your support, as always! (2 years ago)

Tolkien's work in mind, THIS is OG. D&D, Harry Potter and what not, all derived from this.

It's funny bc all the things you're saying are "on the nose" or "doing the trope" ARE the trope. Like this is what inspired it all. They aren't doing DnD, DnD is doing them lol. Both the books and the films have been that influential and groundbreaking.

You mention "playing D & D". You realize that the basis of D&D is from this, the Hobbit and the Silmarillion.

I like how you keep pointing out stuff like "it's like we're playing DnD" and giggling at "a ranger named Strider" as if Lord of the Rings wasn't origin of that stuff. The books were quite literally the archetype that all "generic" fantasy stuff was based directly off of, that's why it all seems so familiar.

“JRR Tolkien has become a sort of mountain, appearing in all subsequent fantasy in the way that Mt. Fuji appears so often in Japanese prints. Sometimes it’s big and up close. Sometimes it’s a shape on the horizon. Sometimes it’s not there at all, which means that either the artist has made a deliberate decision against the mountain, which is interesting in itself, or is in fact standing on Mt. Fuji.” -Terry Pratchett

Yes, Galadrial mentions quite literally that the Ring Has a mind of its own, which it does

I think we're supposed to assume Gandalf is in denial of Saruman's true nature.

The One Ring does have a mind of it's own.

You're confused about the dead elf lady. Luthien lived ages ago and was the first elf to forsake her mortality to live with a mortal man: Beren.

"should have leapt with his horse, landed on that sucker and sunk it", spoken like someone who has never ridden a horse in their life.

Bilbo dropping the ring onto the floor is one of my favourite scenes in the film. Perhaps the reason Bilbo was "meant" to find the ring was because only he was capable of giving it up at the right time, and then just walk away singing.
