First time I heard this was the flip side to another of his songs in a little Robbinsville NJ diner I was waitressing at in 1985 called Sals,I made great money there for 4 hrs a night and dropped a good amount of quarters to hear some good tunes while working. I had an adorable little girl then and was dating a guy that took us down the shore every weekend back then. Seaside,Pt Pleasant,Ocean City,Wildwood and A.C....Takes me right back to those days I'd give anything to revisit once again. The smell of the ocean, the foods cooking on the boardwalk, sounds of the waves crashing at high tide, the rides and games and crowds of people who all got along back then...

That's the finest cover version of a Tom Waits' song I've ever heard.

Love the audience response .. across the bridge to the Jersey side ... A WALL OF CHEERS! And when Brucie sings "down the shore everything's alright" you can just kinda hear a massive SIGH from the audience because we ALL know that's true.

I was right at the front. Thought some amp blew up as the fireworks went off since we couldn’t see them. Love Patty’s muted mic.

I am so happy I experienced this moment - was quite overwhelming to be in that stadium that night.

So weird to think this song is a cover of a Tom Waits song that Tom wrote to his wife. I wonder how Kathleen Brennan must feel, having the love song written to her get so popular.
