Nice summary. The performance in snow is the most challenging. As you mentioned, so much depends on the snow's condition.

Couldn't you use low gears manually to slow your descent on a downhill to aid (DAC) from overheating?

Part of the problem with those guys in the sand is their tire pressures aren't lowered!!
