Connecticut here and I had a great vacation in the UP starting with crossing this bridge. We stayed in a hotel on the shore of Lake Huron. We went to Mackinac Island, Soo Locks, Tahquamenon Falls, White Fish Point to include the Shipwreck Museum and Lighthouse tour and to historical forts. The UP is fabulous! What fun I had!

I’m from Texas. When I first came to Michigan I was here to visit my then boyfriend. He took me to Mackinac Island for a couple of days. All the way across that magnificent bridge I kept saying, “oh wow”! He was laughing at me. I’ve grown to love Michigan. Crossing the Mackinac Bridge aka the “Oh Wow” bridge that first time will always be a special memory for me.

Crossing the Bridge was such a big thrill when I was a kid. Beautiful as ever.

I was born on November 9, 1957. The bridge and I are almost the same age. I believe that magnificent structure will FAR outlive me!

My husband and I moved to the UP from Ann Arbor in the early 80’s, driving a U-Haul and towing a Horizon. We pulled an all-nighter to do it and I happened to be behind the wheel when we got to the bridge around 6 am. Did I stratal lanes driving across? You betcha! Rewarded myself with a nice breakfast at Big Boy afterwards.

During winter whiteouts you go slow and just move back and forth touching the metal grate so you know where you are.

My parents to a family vacation so us kids could experience the ferry for the last time. There was a couple hour wait to get across. We could see the bridge under construction. Amazing memory.
The first time I crossed the bridge I was only 16 and by myself. I can now admit it: I was scared!
